Yes and no.... They will all quit when the temp hits a certain point. Out here in AZ if you leave your iPhone or iPad in direct sun light it will overheat and shut down until it cools. Happens all the time.. But if you recognize that this is not a random problem and take precautions to not allow your hardware to overheat then it should not be an issue. Common factors: direct sun in hot climates, direct sun light while enclosed in some sort of carrier, up against your person for a long period of time. I have seen these units get heat synced from the sun and then put into use only to have them shut down due to heat. Now I use my iPhone and iPad all the time, just keep it cool to start with and don't put it on the glare shield and you should be fine for hours and hours.
I have see many poorly cooled avionics stacks fail. Including G-430's and a few EFIS systems. The TSO's on most unites have a max temp number. If you do not cool or vent the rear of your panel or avionics compartment you could see strange things happen or complete failures. Electronics must be cooled! In many cases the unites stay cool enough because of location. But just because it stays running doesn't mean you are not doing damage that some day will manifest itself in some strange way. Their is a reason that the Garmin 430,530,650,750,330 ect. have cooling ports. Come down to Phoenix in the summer to take the accelerated course.

Sent from my iPad I was threading the needle into the Detroit area (see picture) when my iPad (using ForeFlight) displayed a message that it was shutting down due to high temperature. The pinkish line is my flight path and where the dark red line crosses it just below that building is about where it quit. It wasn’t critical at that point because I was very close to my destination (KVLL). Plus I have a Garmin 430W, but it spooked me. That was a first for me. Have any of you experienced this treat in a critical flight regime? What did you do? Danny LNC2-360 Mk-II Nothing is foolproof to the sufficiently talented fool.
