For what it is worth, I have been putting Marvel
Mystery Oil in my fuel ( 4 oz. per 10 gal.) for the last 1000 hours of
operation. I have close to 1700 Tach hours and close to 1500 flight hours
now. I add, maybe, one quart of oil in 30 flight hours, sometimes
none. I change oil every 30 +/- hours and the filter every other oil
change. Last annual the lowest cylinder was 76/80. I do no training,
touch and goes, wild things. I take off, cruise, and land to visit
grandchildren or just enjoy the day.
My engine was a runout O-320 with 2080 hours when I
bought it for $2800.00. My mechanic friend overhauled it for me in 1994
with 9:1 pistons. I went through the Cermichrome problem and
re-did all four cylinders with the Cerminil process at about 500 to 600
hours. ECI was very cooperative with warranty issues. Now, it
is like a fine watch. During initial break-in, I ran the engine full RPM
and full throttle for about 30 minutes, landed, checked things, and did it
again.
I provide this information, again, for what it is
worth, for just an information base. An old crop duster in south Georgia
got me on the MMO and I think it might help with things like fuel injectors,
valve sleeves and cylinder walls, but some think it is snake oil. But, do
no harm! It might be a good thing.
