Hi Tom,

We’ve got the MT 3 blade on our IV with a normally aspirated IO-550. We have been quite satisfied with this prop as well as the MT two blade on our 320. The primary advantage to the MT is weight.  I don’t have the numbers in front of me but as best as I can remember the MT was about 30 lbs lighter than a comparable Hartzell. The other thing I like about the MTs is that they will govern down to a much higher pitch (lower RPM) than the Hartzells. This will give you a bit less drag compared to the Hartzell when the prop control is pulled all the way back in an engine out situation.

One disadvantage of the MTs is that they need to be kept painted. The paint right behind the nickel leading edge wears off fairly easily.

Subject: [LML] Propeller for ES

It is finally time to purchase the propeller for my ES. I have a IO 550N
engine. I searched the archives and didn't see any thread addressing this but if
I missed it I apologize for the redundancy.
I would appreciate any input on why the Hartzell or MT props for this
combination was chosen or other available props that have been used. Thanks in
advance for your input.
