I know the subject has been discussed extensively in the past on this forum
but I would like to re-visit it in hopes that perhaps someone has come up
with a new and better solution to the problem.  The L-320 construction
manual and other Lancair literature tells us that if we keep the axel nut
tight enough, the inner race of the wheel bearings will not turn on the axel
and the rotation will not wear the GM31 spacer.  This is probably true but
to do so requires that you inspect it weekly or perhaps add the item to you
pre-flight inspection list.
I have heard of some builders adding a long tubular spacer on the axel
extending from bearing to bearing.  This will certainly solve the inner race
rotation problem but what happens when the bearings wear a little?  You
would not be able to close the gap left by the bearing wear unless you
shorten your spacer.  Perhaps a shorter tubular spacer with adjustments
provided by a few washer shims would work.

The bottom line is that the wheel/axel configuration on the L-320 is a BAD
design and I am looking for a way to fix the problem.  I was thinking of
adding a little loctite "sleeve locker" to the axel/bearing interface to
discourage the inner race of the from rotating on the axel but am concerned
that maybe removal would be too difficult.

Any and all comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
