With 531 hours now I was still getting some hard hits on start and at lower RPMs (2300). I had balanced the prop and torqued the engine mounts. I did another interference test by applying a light coat of white primer to the inside of the cowl. Flew a quick circuit and landed and looked for witness marks. This diagram (from the CAFE report) shows where contact with the cowl and the factory baffling occurred on my Legacy. After adjusting the baffling last night, today's flight got rid of all the hard hits. There are some tough ones up front underneath the silicone strips so they may not be obvious but they hit when power is applied and the engine moves forward on the isolators. This is an easy test for anyone still getting knocking sounds or unexplained vibrations at lower RPMS.
