If I see a difference between my 430W GPS and the ForFlight info, I follow
FF because I know it's current.  There have been a couple of times when I
was putting my flight plan into the 430 and a waypoint didn't come up.  At
that point I have to cross check with FF on the iPad to see what a good
waypoint would be and then put that in the 430.  Other times I just use the
iPad alone.  But, for the most part, my flights are about 2-3 hours so I can
usually go direct from A to B.  I use strictly the iPad w/FF for terminal
procedures (approaches, SID, STAR, DP, etc.) so it's not a problem.

So this gets to the question of exactly what can change in the gps data
base.
I assume waypoints can come and go and new procedures show up, or get
enhanced with vnav.
How do you deal with that?

Keeping your databases is very expensive.  Unfortunately, if you're going
to
use your GPS for IFR flight, approaches, procedures, etc., it must be kept
current.  My alternative is to use my iPad with a $150/yr subscription to
ForFlight (http://www.foreflight.com/ipad) for all my flights (VFR & IFR)
and then once a year I update my Garmin 430W databases for $100.  It seems
to work very well and I don't have Jeppesen gouging me.

I just wrote out a check for $624.45 to keep my Chelton system up to date
for another year.

Do any of you know a less expensive option than Jeppesen?  Or do they
simply
have a corner on this market place?
