Dan,
The red factory Lancair 320 was featured in the February 1989 AOPA
Pilot magazine. I bought my 320 slow build kit in March 1989 because
of that article and the fuselage had a serial number of
173.

Dan, the
date part of the seller's ad below (1994) makes me believe that this might
be Don Goetz's early 235 - sorta the test bed for adding larger engines
than the O-235. This was the time frame when, if I remember
correctly, the 320 was being tried and the 360 was to follow. The 1994
date makes me believe that the airframe kit had to be from around '92 to
'93 since even Don, though a very fast builder, couldn't build one in less
than 6 months - hence my belief that the kit for this airplane hails from
pre-320/360 days.
If it is Don's airplane, perhaps with a new
N-number, it's been wrenched on quite a bit. Again, if it's Don's old
LNC2, it's probably pretty tired and I'd pass.
This is not to infer
that LNC2's with a lot of time on them are used up - my early 235 first
flight was in '93 and it's still perfectly sound, per my annual and
intermediate inspections.
