Danny,

The last time I saw 33AN was about a year ago.  I did a pre-purchase inspection on it and recommended strongly that my customer keep looking.  Apparently he took my advice since it appears to still be for sale by the same person.

I have a long history with the airplane, including being sued for causing a gear-up landing, but that's another story (the arbitrator later asked me to work on his plane--draw your own conclusions...).  Still, I think I can be objective.

When I did the prepurchase last year, the log books were with the plane.  Some time after my initial involvment, the plane had at least one collapsed nose gear.  Before that I recall that it had some long entries that seemed like some very extensive airframe work, but I don't recall the details.  The plane has had long periods of down time.

Be very careful with that airplane.  It's had a lot of work since we worked on it last.  There should be a ton of info in the logbooks.

Unless alot has changed since the last time I saw it, 33AN looks like a plane for a person who's looking for a project.

I wouldn't.  I would want a complete photo history with closeups at every stage of the build + a detailed listing of who did what including the engine overhaul and engine install.
A conscientious builder tends to do all that anyway.
There are plenty of really good airplanes for sale with docs.

You are relying a lot on the attitude/craftsmanship/knowledge of the people that touched the airplane.   If you can't identify and characterize them, then you don't really know what you are getting.

This airplane is available on barnstormers.com and elsewhere.  It appears to be a pretty nice airplane, nicely equipped for a reasonable price.  However, it comes with no factory or builder documentation whatsoever, and that concerns me.  Am I being overly cautious or concerned about nothing?  Would any of you buy a used experimental with no docs?
