Fred,
The male-threaded part in your picture contains a spring-loaded
valve. Not shown in your picture of the cap with a hose barb is a wire bale on
the back side that opens the valve when it’s screwed on the base. Hope this
helps. BTW, I think I have an extra one that I’d sell cheap. Let me know

Lancair
lists a Continental quick drain (shown below) in their on line catalogue.
It looks like you remove a cap and screw on a hose which seems like it would
make a mess. I recall quick drains that contain valves – push the hose
on, push the valve up to open, and drain with no mess. Am I missing
something here? Recommendations?
