Well, let me ask this: what are the differences
between the structure of the 200's wings and that of the 300s. Mainly
things like the wing spars caps, and the landing gear support structure in the
wing. Ws that changed?
Terry,
See Dan Schaefer's reply about the 235. I don't know if there were
any specific differences because of the 300 series
wings being slightly longer than the 200 series aircraft.
Also, note that Lancair provided the 300 series with an option for
extended wingtips (better climb and high altitude performance) and suggestions
for using the outboard bay (inside the original wing) for more fuel without
any additional strength added. That is, there were no spar changes.
I think the biggest difference is when the building technique was changed
to using "cap strips" on the ribs. Since the skin participates in the
strength of the wing, it would seem that such a technique leads to a stronger
wing.
I believe the flap deployment mechanism is different between the 200 and
300 aircraft (if one considers the flap as part of the wing).
Also a SB had the 300 flap push rods beefed up (to 3/8" if I remember
correctly) since the 1/4" ones were being bent.
