Well,

I suppose this will start an argument but here goes!

By my reading of 91.205 and my operating limitations, only aircraft with standard category (we have special category) airworthiness certificates are required to have fuel measurement for each tank. The words from 91.205(a) are:

...no person may operate a powered civil aircraft with a standard category U.S. airworthiness certificate in any operation described in paragraphs (b) through (f) of this section unless that aircraft contains the instruments and equipment specified in those paragraphs (or FAA-approved equivalents) for that type of operation, and those instruments and items of equipment are in operable condition.

Further, the only reference to 91.205 in my operating limitations is:

8. After completion of Phase 1 flight testing, unless appropriately equipped for night and/or instrument flight in accordance §91.205, this aircraft is to be operated under VFR, day only.

9. Aircraft instruments and equipment installed and used under §91.205 must be inspected and maintained in accordance with the requirements of part 91.  Any maintenance or inspection of this equipment must be recorded in the aircraft maintenance records.

It seems to me that the FARs say day VFR requires no equipment from 91.205.  But it does say, if equipment from that list is installed, then maintenance and inspections have requirements.  Night and instrument make things muddier though because the first item in the  night list is the day VFR list and instrument requires that plus the night list for instrument at night.

Let the flames begin.
