By my reading of 91.205 and my operating limitations, only aircraft with st= andard category (we have special category) airworthiness certificates are r= equired to have fuel measurement for each tank. The words from 91.205(a) ar= e: ...no person may operate a powered civil aircraft with a standard category = U.S. airworthiness certificate in any operation described in paragraphs (b)= through (f) of this section unless that aircraft contains the instruments = and equipment specified in those paragraphs (or FAA-approved equivalents) f= or that type of operation, and those instruments and items of equipment are= in operable condition. Further, the only reference to 91.205 in my operating limitations is: =098.=09After completion of Phase 1 flight testing, unless appropriately eq= uipped for night and/or instrument flight in accordance =C2=A791.205, this = aircraft is to be operated under VFR, day only. =099.=09Aircraft instruments and equipment installed and used under =C2=A79= 1.205 must be inspected and maintained in accordance with the requirements = of part 91. Any maintenance or inspection of this equipment must be record= ed in the aircraft maintenance records. It seems to me that the FARs say day VFR requires no equipment from 91.205.= But it does say, if equipment from that list is installed, then maintenan= ce and inspections have requirements. Night and instrument make things mud= dier though because the first item in the night list is the day VFR list a= nd instrument requires that plus the night list for instrument at night. Let the flames begin. Tom Thibault
