I've been building IVs for over 13 years, so I haven't been around since very beginning. I cannot
think of a single Lancair IV crash that was cause by engine failure turbine or
piston. Both engines are very reliable. I cannot think of a single crash of a
IV or Legacy due to airframe failure. I don't follow the smaller Lancairs
but I think they have a darn good record too. There was an engine failure
problem in a Legacy crash that we can probably all agree that Shannon could have
handled better in many different ways.
I remember a number of flights into severe weather that weren't successful.
I remember a number of stall/spin accidents. We've been through this all many
times before, these are great little airplanes. All that's really required
to fly them safely is good judgement.
Have I missed a bunch of engine failures?
Dave.
