would wager that a good percentage of the pilots no longer with us

would have given the right answer on the ground but somehow

couldn't get to the right answer in the air.   I think THAT particular

problem is very worth discussing, and one that procedural training

doesn't always solve.

Great obersvation. After giving many checkrides-- I have come to the conclusion that many people can give you the correct answer on the ground...few can do it in the air--particularly when it comes to emergency procedures. The airlines and military excel at this because of training in sims... GA does not.
