Listen to the engine - if louder PULL power, NEUTRALIZE ailerons, STEP ON
THE SKY and GENTLY pull back on the yoke.  "Step on the sky" means, look at
the AI and see which foot to use.

I understand the concept of "step on the sky" but let's suppose you're having a really bad day; you're in IMC, you enter a spin, and your AI gyro has tumbled or maybe it failed prior to the spin.  Since you're spinning the ball doesn't help.  What's next?  If the DG is still working would you use it?  Or the mag compass?  I know, I know, I should just go get spin and upset training then I wouldn't have to ask.  But that's not likely to happen in the next couple of months and now I'm curious.
