The dash -
A engines came from Continental engines with plugs in the bleed air
ports.
Their explanation was that those engines had been produced for a
specific (not identified) individual, who wanted a turbocharged, (but not a
high altitude engine).
The E engine was
produced as a high altitude engine and came with sonic
nozzles.
Our first 1V (N409)
originally had a -A engine and shortly after it started flying at higher
altitudes, suffered a couple of compressor stalls, an event that will get
your attention.
Continentals remedy
for the condition was the addition of sonic nozzles
