Any time you split the signal on reception, you lose
slightly more than 3dB. That reduces range to 70%, or spells the difference
between clear or un-intelligible reception. Often when I'm coming into an
airport, I may hear another plane arriving also, and their transmission isn't
all that clear, either due to aspect angle or a poor installation. Give up 3dB,
and you might not hear them in a time which allows you to scan for it while
you're busy setting up your approach.
