All,
A month or so ago, I posted
http://lancair.net/lists/lml/Message/32611.html
Since that time I've been building, cruising, holidaying, etc.
Since the original post, a bunch of people (20 in all) replied directly to
me. I've copied them back directly on this, but thot I'd see if there are
any other takers. More people, cheaper price :)
Anyway, I believe I've come up with something since the original post. I've
also decided against trying to make the bottom part of the locking cap. Two
things keep getting in the way. It's possible, no problem, but it will
weight a bunch more, and it will be aluminum on aluminum wear against the
inside bottom of the filler neck, and I don't think any of us want aluminum
oxide collecting in the fuel system. Besides that part isn't seen and in
some ways, It might be a "wear" item that you'll replace overtime.
However the "Tab" is a cosmetic part and one that screams out for being
replaced.
So I've designed a replacement. I've also found a pretty cool website that
offers cad part manufacturing. www.emachineshop.com
I'm waiting on a costed price, but if you are interested, send me a private
email and indicate your threshold of pain from the following price survey.
a) needs to be less than $5 each or I'm not interested
b) can be between $5 and 10 each
c) can be between $10 and $15 each
d) can be between $15 and 25 each
These would be machined and clear anodized. Let me know if you'd like them
"polished" as well in your response.
Screen shots of the new part are at

Thanks for allowing the bandwidth. Timeframes would be on the order of 30
days or so to save on expedite charges.
