Interesting comments, Grayhawk, those of you, whom have had the misfortune to perform an off field landing, have you left gear up or down? I'm thinking that if landing in a farmer's field the gear might best be left up...?

wheel-less Lancair slides to a stop rather quickly and the distance/direction is not affected by applying brakes or rudder and I know because I engaged both.  However, one is still required to make a "good" landing.
