I'm about to install the pushrods on a Legacy and am wondering if I should
provide some corrosion protection for them?
Alan, we had ours powder coated (spray on powdered paint and then heat them
in a special oven made for the purpose). They look very nice, but this is
overkill for corrosion protection. Aluminum primer with almost any paint
over that will probably protect them for longer than the rest of the
airplane will last. Be sure to put some anti-corrosion fluid inside the
tubes as well. I did this by drilling a small hole and squirting some in the
completed tubes with an oil can, then draining out the excess and putting a
small closed rivet in the hole. I'd definitely protect them in any case.
Even a small bit of surface corrosion that doesn't affect their strength
will detract from the value and appearance of your plane. Painting/treating
them now is cheap insurance!
