Am I out of line here by asking who this instructor was? It appears he was employed by Lancair, or on the approved list by High Performance Training. If he is a member of the LML, then how about an explanation? Maybe there is something than can be learned by the other Legacy folks to prevent this from happening to them. I'm very respectful of Don Barnes for taking the time to explain his incident, and we all benefited greatly from that. I don't see this list as being one to place blame or try to embarrass anyone, but rather one to spread information; both building hints, and safety information. Most insurance companies require you to have a certain amount of time in type before they will cover you. If you are getting instuction in your airplane for this time, then you must make sure your instructor is named on the policy. As long as he meets the covered requirements, then you should be covered(he is PIC right?). I've given instruction to several Lancair pilots for their initial, or recurrent training, and they have always put me on their policy before we go flying. I'm sure there is someone out there who knows the ins and outs of this much more than I do. Ron Galbraith

I sold my Legacy last spring and am in the process of building a NEW Legacy with completion to be by the end of year. When I sold the plane the person who
purchased it needed to get 15 hours in the Legacy and was told he HAD to get training from either Lancair or High Performance training. He contacted them and after some scheduling delays met with pilot that John Huff flew with.
