i went with the avia prop because it was designed to work with the
walter(avia and walter are somehow financially related) and especially
because it was about 10 grand less than the hartzell as i would have to
buy a prop governor for the hartzell and it came with the avia/walter
combo.

the hope is that the slinger ring will provide icing protection for the
windshield as well as the inlets and fuselage.  time will tell but tks
is a proven product.  downside is the messy heavy fluid and lack of
prefabbed tanks to hold the fluid for our lancairs.  our builder BRIAN
ALLEY designed a beautiful very functional though slightly complicated
and labor intensive custom tank system using space mainly in the wing
root fairings(thereby minimizing cg issues) as well as a small filler
tank in the front floor of the baggage compartment.  time will tell
total capacity but it should be somewhere in the 4+ gallon range which i
believe is more than cirrrus has.  though a potentially fairly heavy
sytem, imho as of 6/14/05 this is the most reliable proven system for
anti/deicing(other than not flying when there are clouds in the sky). obviously the goal is to avoid icing but i feel safer knowing that there
is a plan b if absolutely needed.

slinger ring which lancair
supplied for my avia prop.  it's all installed and looks beautiful. now
all we gots to do is fly!!

It sounds like very few IV-P's have ice protection. Let me throw one
out and I would like to here what's good or bad.  IMS system on the
wings and tail. Appears to have minimal affect on wing dynamics. TKS
system on prop. Eliminates electrical slip ring. I do not know exactly
how the TKS slinger ring works but I would think it would also keep air
inlet clear and be more reliable than electric boots. Also use on
windshield. Disadvantage is, how small can fluid reservoir be and not
run out? I'm getting a headache changing my mind.

However, I'm almost positive they all have props.  What's the best
prop?  Opinion??  Why?
