But, when you are used to nothing at all "S" is a very welcome addition.  I don't doubt the benefit of true TCAS.  And someday I will have it.  But for now the S was affordable and easy to get when already buying the Garmin 430 and 330S txpdr.
 
There is alway something better out there.  When does it all stop?

In my experience, mode S should be the greatest sales tool for active TCAD,
for two reasons:
1) when you see how much traffic there really is you understand you really want traffic avoidance.
2) when you see how flaky mode S coverage is you'll want something that always works.
