Brian, I puncture the top of the filter a few after I start the drain, on my ES. I allow plenty of time for the oil to drain. It drains well and makes very little mess. Of course I run the engine to temperature first. I have a quick drain installed too, but don't remember the part number. Bought it for my engine, from the FBO in Bend. It works great.

Changing the engine
oil and the filter on the TSIO550E engine can be a real mess. Can anyone
make a recommendation on a quick drain retrofit kit for the drain
plug? Also, is there any remote oil filter kit or other option to solve the
problem with removing the upside down oil filter and dumping oil all over the
back of the engine and firewall?
