What is the maximum manifold pressure at which one may perform the "big
pull" (go LOP)?

I use the proposed max MP for cruise as the maximum MP to do the BMP.   When teaching this, I use a lower MP so the student can screw it up and not hurt anything.  (it's darned hard to screw it up, but people worry about it!)  That way, he sees the effects without having to worry about making a mistake.  As soon as this is resolved, I have them go directly to the final cruise MP and do the BMP.  I do it this way in the GTSIO-520s and the TSIO-550 as well as the TNIO-550 and the radials!
