Another two cents worth, when I am to fly in any IMC situation and some times before leaving the ground, I turn on Pitot heat and Carb Heat and check the increase in Amps to see if working. My system, a K&N filters all incoming air, a la Mooney, and an alterate air door from a PA-28 (150 Hp, similair Engine as mine) with manual operation also. I use only paved runways, but get a bunch of DIRT from the K&N each annual. ONce you get carb ice, it could be a bear to get ride of it, especially if your filter is wet. The K&N takes quite a while to dry out... Regards Ds 320J 235/320
