Re: [LML] Re: K&N Air Filters
Bill:
Mine was not on the Lancair. It was on a Bonanza with the IO-550B. As it turned out, the size of the opening wasn't sufficient to allow for adequate FF. It was the unit the company said would work. It worked fine on the lower HP 470, not on the 550. You're right. Something funny is going on.

Walter:
Please tell us what # K & N Filter you are using in the L-IVP. Thanks Bill Hogarty
P.S. I dont get a bypass door open light with the stock NAPA filter. Something strange here???

Subject: [LML] K&N Air Filters
When I chose the type filter for the IV-P I built I called K&N. I use a round filter as close as possible to the filter shape/size the plenum will accept. A fellow at K&N did the calculation and told me I had just barely enough excess flow for the turbo'ed 550. He wanted to know if it was in fact turbo'ed and the maximum RPM as well as the displacement. I forget the figures now but I seem to remember the filter had something like a seven percent higher flow rating than the TSIO 550 requires. Everything is at the hangar with the airplane but if anyone wants to know the filter number I'll find it and pass it along. I need to adjust the bypass door micro switch anyway as it stays on now untill I reach up thru the wheel well and open the door with my fingers. The door opens at takeoff power as I see the light blink on (when the switch is set properly) for a second or three.
