| Scot -   That's a really interesting analysis.
I have dual electronic ignitions in my Lancair 360 and have done a bit of
testing, but until I find a copilot willing to spend hours in the air with me I
won't be able to gather as much info as you have.   My dual electronic ignition is PC
controllable, and I have done quite a few changes to the timing while
flying.  I typically run a few degrees less advance than stock in take-off
mode but run mid-30's in cruise settings.  Adding a degree or two of timing
(from low 30's) did help a knot or two...
maybe.  But after that the benefits really diminished.  I could
probably add 10 to 15 degrees MORE advance and still wouldn't have a detonation
problem in the cruise mode.     Come fly in
NC some time and we'll hook up the laptops and run some
tests... Matt
