There really sound reasons for doing this. Noise is one reason. Bob Fair
said he expected it to improve yaw stability on approach, since you
don't have those two big rudders ahead of the CG. Also, there have been
reports of excessive hinge wear on the gear doors. The doors must take a
real beating, since they are right in the prop blast during climbout.
