I had the same experience with the fuel I drained after my accident. I've never had any problem with fuel contamination in regard to engine operation as far as I know and the fuel when drained always looked fine. I kept a sample to possibly investigate for the cause of the engine failure after the accident,  after sitting for a long period in the corner of the hangar I noticed it had changed colors as you described.
