For what it's worth, the Legacy skins are carbon
fiber. (Although I think the cowl is e-glass on the more recent
kits.) Even though I'm an electrical engineer I've never investigated the
electrical properties of Lancair's carbon fiber skins and have no idea
if they afford some level of lightning protection. I do know the
stuff conducts well enough that, several times now, I've had static discharges
from myself to the skin of my Legacy. It startled me the first time as I
wasn't expecting it. Now it's more of a curiosity, and each time it
happens I tell myself I've gotta remember to check out just how conductive the
stuff really is. Yeah, like a kit builder has time for side
projects.
