Just one or two comments - Gel cell batteries are reported to have rather
high internal resistance and thus are a poor choice for our application.

The Panasonic SLA battery now comes in a 20 AH version that has the same
external dimensions as the 17 AH at only a small weight and cost penalty.
My SLA 20AH batteries are mounted in front of the main wing spar box under
the copilot's seat - they are side by side and will be rotated so that one
is changed each year.  The electrical scheme is that advocated by Bob
Nuckolls.
