Hi Everyone,
Well-- The BEST of news-- The Worst of news!!!
First, the Best.
Prop hub was disassembled and pitch change mechanism was in "As new"
condition. Perfect.
Best News because I was VERY impressed with it's performance in the short
time we flew with it and
was looking forward to the figures at cruise at high altitude
.
And, the Worst of News-- We STILL do not know what happened.
About the only thing left is the prop governor. It is enroute to reputable
o'haul shop and we are hoping
that we'll find a internal failure that will account for the o'speed. All
previous theories have been wrong.
The only damage we have uncovered is in the magneto drive/ impulse
couplings. We all (4 sets of ears) all agree
that -- The engine went Thud / o'sped for 2-3 seconds, I pulled throttle
mixture, prop-- then it
recovered governed speed for 10 seconds then as I gingerly restored Mixture
Throttle Prop-- it ran away again.
Waiting for the prop gov report,
Charlie K.
