<<It isn't advertised, therefore, few people realize that using a BMRS
is a guaranteed destruction of your airplane. The plane comes down so
fast and nose-low that it fairly crushes in front thus protecting the
passenger compartment and its occupants>>
This is true, but in the case of an "unrecoverable" structural failure,
this would be a nice option. We own a Kolb Firestar II (345 lbs) and
elected not to put a BRS on it simply because the plane is normally flown at
altitudes so low the chute wouldn't be practical. Also, when you deploy
that chute, you lose complete control of your plane, and might just find
yourself tangled up in who knows what. If some nut deploys his BRS over
your town and gives control up to the wind, you wouldn't want the wind
ain't blowin at your house. Losing an engine doesn't warrant messing
up your plane in most instances, because a safe landing or ditch should
usually be able to be achieved. However, if your tail falls off over
the ocean, it would be nice to have one right about then.
