Do you think that running 8-10 lbs of boost with the
waste gate forced closed contributed to the failure.
I'm sure it precipitated it, but it was probably waiting to happen. I just
wanted the failure at 5k over my home field. :)

I may be wrong, but I thought
that normally the stock turbo only produced about 6 lbs of boost.
I think it's more than that, but I'd like to hear the answer to that
question again.

I have the stock waste gate controller on mine
I had two problems with this.
1. I wanted to run with the wastegate fully open for the first few flights.
2. I'll want boost at height, when the controller thinks I don't need it.

Maybe a stock controller with vacuum solenoids for always open / always
closed would be a better plan (so long as you dont forget to operate the
switches)

I have a pop off valve set at 7 lbs.
I have a 6 PSI radiator cap in the intake. I don't think it can blow off
pressure fast enough.
What did you use for a pop-off?

I'm curious about how many other people are using the 89-91
turbo, how long they've been running it, and what boost levels they are
running.
I don't know of another flying turbo. Greg Richter used a Turbonetics T04.

Wow. You can paint and type at the same time? Very impressive.
