Shipping costs.....shipping an engine across the country can be costly, but there are some ways to reduce the cost.  I shipped a crated Lycoming I0-360 from CA to PA for $287 and a VW from CA to NY for $274.  The first quote I received from the trucking company for the VW was over $1200.  I began negotiating and two things reduced the quote: I specified that it did not matter when the engine was shipped, and it did not matter how long it took to arrive at the destination.  In both cases shipping took less than seven days.  Another thing is to prepay the shipping.  If you can, specify delivery to a business address to also lower the cost.
Hope this helps, best wishes for tailwinds.

Finn, when I bought Chad R's motor (CT to CO) we agreed to meet halfway in Chicago, because of what we both felt was excessive cost to ship.

Chad put the engine on a small trailer, & I put a temporary 3/4" wood floor in my van.
The engine was on a 2x4 base; we both used long sheet rock screws to secure it.

Since I also bought Chad's cherry picker, we used that to make the transfer.

We met & did the transfer in a Home Depot parking lot, just in case we needed something else at the last minute.  (We didn't).

Hm, I wonder what shipping to/from FL/OR is.

I have a standard RV-4 engine mount I'll have to butcher to fit a rotary.

Just showed up on the VAF forum. Based on prior posts on VAF, the guy knows almost nothing about it.
