Looks nice Charlie. At that angle changed the filter shouldn’t be too messy.

Merry Christmas,

Bobby

Subject: [FlyRotary] oil filter adapter update

A couple of months ago, I asked Dale R. about his oil filter adapter blocks. I wanted something to direct-mount the filter, to avoid extra hoses & weight but avoiding an extra bump in the cowl. This is what I finally came up with. It uses the stock Renesis oil mount tower, rotated ~180 degrees. It mounts the temp & press sensors, and has the oil feed for the gearbox. It's made from 3/4" 6061 plate & should be very simple to make using CNC, & could be made on a drill press with a good drill press vice. I had access to a Bridgeport so I used its x-y table to position the block for some of the drilling operations.

For clearance issues related to both the cowl and my radiator duct, the tower is at a rather odd angle and uses separate bolts for the adapter and the mount tower. If my radiator duct had been made slightly lower or farther outboard, I could have simply 'clocked' the tower 180 degrees around & bolted it down using the same bolts through the tower & the adapter.

Oil flow is: cooler to filter input (path out of the tower to regulator in the block is blocked off by the adapter), through the filter & into the adapter. The adapter feeds both the regulator & the engine oil supply port/gearbox.

Hope this is useful to someone.

Dale, I wish I could have bought this from you; it was way too much education for the price. :-)

Charlie
(No those aren't the permanent oil lines.)
