John, I have read NACA reports that claim a NACA duct
should not be used when there is back pressure such as cased by a heat exchanger
core - that the NACA duct is better suited for such applications as air inlet to
engine induction system. That said, plenty of folks have used the Naca
duct successfully - perhaps not optimum - but, hey!, if it works.
Personally, I would opt for taking air off the right side
radiator inlet for four reasons. 1. I suspect that the oil
volume/temp for the gear box would NOT require nearly as much air flow as say an
engine oil cooler or radiator. 2. Duct losses for the radiator are
already encountered - no need to add another duct and their losses.
3. You do not have to make additional hole in your cowl.
4. If this option fails to produce desired results you could always opt
for cutting another hole in your cowl.

Thomas, my machinist friend cut a grove in the case
under the prop shaft bearings so the oil would have a route to return to the
main section, also he made a retainer to secure the seal in the case. I
have to install an oil cooler for the redrive, also a temperature gauge.
I'm glassing in the inlet for the engine oil cooler now, but family matters are
slowing progress, I tell everyone it will be done in May, just not sure what
year.
I'm not sure at this
point if I should install a NACA duct or do a take off from the right side
radiator inlet duct for the transmission cooler, Ed what is your opinion on
this. JohnD
