Hi Andrew,
I bought a Vari-Prop one and a half years ago for my Ford V6 in my BD4 with an Ivo electric prop and  Tracy's EC2 and EM2. I have nearly 300 hours on this combination so far. I love Tracy's stuff but I haven't flown with the Vari-Prop yet because of various issues.
Larry sent my prop in parts that I assembled. This saved shipping and I liked being able to assemble it myself. However Larry must not have assembled ahead of time since there were some things that didn't fit correctly. In the process of getting this corrected I found Larry to be sincere but lacking in focus.
The prop seem very excellent in workmanship but make sure Larry assembles it and tests it before he sends you one. I plan on flying mine very soon.

Whats the current consensus on Vari-prop?
Larry seems like a decent bloke and is quite passionate about his prop design, but he’s saying the rotary only needs his lighter hub design (80-125hp VP-1 series), stating that the smoothness of the rotary negates the need to go for the heavier hub. Has anyone got experience with these props or know of anyone flying with one?
other option is electric MT, but about double the cost down here.
