Can anyone tell me what type of sealant/gasket/whatever should be used between the rear planetary gear carrier and rear side housing.  (See item 5 in the attached drawing)  Oil pressure is supplied to the bearing from the oil filter pad down through a channel in the rear side housing to the planet gear carrier and finally through the small hole in the carrier to the bearing.  While there is a seal around the rear main journal, I don't recall what should be used to seal the oil from leaking from around the 6 carrier bolts.  I ask because I may have a leak in this area.

Thanks,

That used to be a thin "O" ring. But those are sooooo expensive. It is now some sealant goop. I would use Non-hardening Permatex. Mazda has a silicone like sealant. And some where they say what to use.

The gear will leak a bit of oil if no ring or sealant is used. You can remove the rear stationary gear without disturbing the engine. Just don't turn the engine with the gear out. Just a fine bead of whatever you use.
You need none of it getting inside the engine.
