why do fuel check valves run $30-60?  I use ball check valves in my house plumbing [brass body, s/s ball, high quality] and they cost all of $12.  is this just "the way it is"?

valves, (one way swing check or stop check valves) used to shut off flow or prevent backflow, for aircraft use are expensive. Household plumbing supply valves in bronze with stainless balls and composite seats rated for Gas/Oil or water are less expensive based on liability recovery claims, not on functionality. They are heavy as a down side but perform perfectly.

Probably half the cost of any Andair valve is for liability insurance. The Andair also provides multiple functions, such as Left, Right and Both and other combinations while the household valve is just on, or off.
