The in/out on the RX-8 may be 1.25 inch.  That is what mine are on the plane.

If there is a consensus in this field I haven't heard it yet : )

I bought my rad with the standard in & out ports (1.25 & 1.5) for the sake of being cheap. b Griffen gets about $100 for each change I think.  I made adapters to make both 1" .  That's plenty in this application, even for a 20B.  This is on the RV-8.

The RV-4 is using two cores with 5/8" ins & 3/4" outs (in parallel).
