Auto-tune is invoked in Mode 9 but is not the same thing as Mode 9. Before doing auto-tune you should check for and fix any large mixture bumps or dips in the throttle range. You can do that in either Mode 1 or Mode 9. If this is still confusing, read over the instructions for these two modes.

My question is: why not use Mode 9 autotune after Mode 3/2? My understanding is that 9/autotune does what you would be doing manually with Mode 1. But maybe my understanding is out of tune.
