Not using Tracy's EM-2, so can't help you there.  However, if Tracy
suggested hooking up your EM-2 that way to "make the signal stronger" then
he's the designer - but, if suggested by anyone other than Tracy, I would be

signal appears to work for most - at its normal signal level that the
"Stronger signal" approach may be a brute force method to overcome problems

There is an input to the EM2 for the injector pulse signal in addition
to the serial data input. Normally rotor 1 primary is used (like Don has
it connected).  RPM and fuel flow calculations are made from this
signal. I think at some point Tracy had tried to use the serial port to
transfer that data to the EM2 but had problems with inconsistent
reading, probably due to delays getting the data packaged up in the
serial data stream.
