Ed,

I hereby award you the "gracious, kindly, coherent, helpful, non-
confrontational response" award - on behalf of the FlyRotary list
(but with no authority to do so other than my own desire to say "thank
you"
for such even-tempered, helpful, 'go the extra mile', and 'above and
beyond
the call of duty' participation in this valuable e-mail forum.)

David Carter

Thanks, David - appreciate you comments.  Makes it worthwhile!

I certainly have big gaps in my knowledge and understanding, but having
been at it a bit longer than some (trying to elminate the gaps not increase
them {:>)) and having more than my fair share of "ReDos", I believe I am
slowing gaining a better understanding of the situation. As I frequently
note - my advice is worth what you guys pay for it {:>).

I too have "copied" parts of  other installations.  One such instance was
copying a complete induction system and another instance was an oil cooler
configuration.  The copying of the induction system was a flop - why,
because it was designed for a racing rotary turning around 9500 rpm - very
disimilar configuration to my engine and operating regime.  The second
instance was a resounding success, my oil cooling problem went away - why,
identicial aircraft, identical engine, with identical (or close enought)
operating regimes.  So in that case what worked for another rotary powered
RV-6 ( after adding an identifical oil cooler in a nearly identical
location) also worked for me.

So certainly, look at other successful installations - but, evaluate how
close your installation and operating regime is to that the successful one.
If its close - probably a good thing to copy it.  If not close, then you
should give it a lot of though in my opinion - it may work, or again -
it may not.
