Dang, the typo is in my brain.  Keeping track of the two existing EM2 types while working on the EM3 at the same time has me in overload.  I was assuming a single part EM2 in my reply and I meant to say P3, not P2.  P3 (on the single part EM2) is a 15 pin connector and is the proper destination for the EC2 pin 17 connection. 
 
Still, the original question of P2-24 has me confused because in no case (old or new EM2) should it be connected to EC2 pin 17.  The EM2 instructions are correct. 
 
But, to answer Bob's question, yes, all the things you quoted are correct.  I think :>)

model EM2 is P2 pins 11 and 24 for serial data.  P2 is the 25 pin sensor
group 1 connector.  The old separate display module used pins 5 and 6 of
P4 which was the 15 pin display connector.
