They are Important at idle and low throttle, especially when trying to meet emissions rules.   I do use the primary diffusers but not on the secondarys which come on line at mid-throttle settings.  Exact point where secondaries come on line is user adjustable in Mode 7 on the EC2.  I set mine at around 19" MAP.
