The AN fittings should seal by themselves. If they don't there is something wrong. Since you are talking about radiator fittings I'll assume the fittings are aluminum. (on the radiator) Welding them in can distort them. Check the Earls/Holley catalog. They have a repair washer for AN fittings that have been damaged. The repair washer should do the trick for you.

I used 37 degree AN fittings on my radiators. They aren't sealing completely. The best I've been able to do is limit the leaking to a bubble every two seconds with 25psi of air pressure (pressurize the system and then dunk it in a tub of water).
Is it permissible or advisable to use some sort of nylon washer inside the fitting to get an airtight seal?
