You do not need a log book you need at least 4.
A builders log, an airframe log, a propeller log and an engine log.
Just to be
clear, you are "required" to have a builders log, and an airframe log, but
for an experimental, it's only "suggested" that you have a prop or engine
log. I've had 5 aircraft inspected, and have only presented an engine
or prop log once (they came with the new engine and prop). My builders log
and photos have always been on computer, and I just set up a laptop so
the DAR can review them. I always have a CD with all the info as
well, in case he wants a copy of it for his records.
For the
aircraft log, I just use a cheap logbook that I get from Spruce, but I like the
idea of just making your own. All you need to do is list all the general
info you can think of for the airframe, engine, and prop. The rest of the
book can be blank pages for any entries you need to
make.
As for the
DAR inspection, I agree that the DAR should have given you some expectation of
what he plans to look at, and what he expects to see. Barring that,
I'd try to find others who have had their aircraft inspected by the same DAR,
and let them tell you what to expect. Every DAR has his/her own
expectations.
Cheers,
Rusty
