Dave,  as best I recall, if you  used a front cover gasket, then you needed to use the white nylon washer and an O ring.  If on the other hand you only used silicon for the outside gasket sealing then you could get away with just the O ring.  It also depends on whether you had any machining done to the boss the O ring rides in.

The oil pressure could be easily be over 100 psi  at that location, so I personally would hesitate to use just silicone sealant due to that.  However, seeing as how Tracy uses the high temp stuff to seal his exhaust flange, perhaps it will withstand the pressure OK.

Subject: [FlyRotary] Front Cover Oil Passage

Looking for help here from the expert rebuilders.  I just put the engine back in after the re-build and used silicone on the front cover oil passage instead of the o-ring and nylon....

I seem to remember having done that last time, and it worked fine.  I think I did it last time for some sort of good reason, but now I cant think of any good reason not to use the o-ring.  Then in the middle of the night I realized that the oil pressure there is probably quite high, and that is mostly a big gap to fill....

Do any of you experts use silicone there instead of an o-ring?
